Why join a Beekeeping Association and why Exeter?

For beginners the support, training and advice that a Beekeeping Association can give you is vital. You will find that the members are very willing to help you.

For the more experienced beekeeper, the chance to etend your knowledge and to help others is hugely rewarding.

By obtaining membership you gain facility to access to facilities but of vital importance is insurance - the benefits include:

  • Public Insurance to protect you if your bees cause accident or injury 
  • Disease insurance should colonies be lost due to notifiable disease.

Disease and the Bee behaviour is something that is taken seriously as is safety. Therefore we only allow two visits to the Apiary before Membership and with it Insurance are required. The Regioanlk and Seasonal Bee  Inspectors will ask about Membership and Insuarance when the visit you at your Apiary.

Importantly, the human aspects: 

  • free advice and hands-on help from experienced beekeepers.
  • summer practical advice and the chance to learn and take away (at a modest fee) your nucleus for the winter to prepare for the following year
  • winter talks on bee related topics
  • Devon County and British Beekeepers Association periodicals
  • a forum to buy and sell equipment 
  • the chance to sell honey and other related products at Bee Shows 
  • Access to the Branch library.
  • The hire of specialist/expensive equipment
  • Access to the Branch Microscopist to examine bees for a disease - this is normal a small fee to cover expenses.
  • Branch events and social meetings.
  • Branch members can have their own email account XXX@exeterbees.com which is hosted in google. (Please note that the branch accept no liability for any traffic on these accounts and the Administrator with Officer consent can with draw use immediately).  For paid up members only (note that should your membership lapse then your email account will be deleted, who would like an account please contact Website Administrator
  • And if that is not enough, unless at a  pub or other such place - tea/coffee and biscuits.  What else do you want?
